Funding and Sponsorship

In the beginning, we received financial help from individual foreigners and their friends. Several groups of supporters in Bali, Australia and the Netherlands have held fund-raising events.

The art gallery at the centre brings in an increasing level of income, however, most of our activities still have to be funded through sponsorship. Much of our time and energy is spent attracting sponsors. We have been receiving help regularly from two large Dutch organisations: de Stichting Kinderpostzegels Nederland (SKN) (English language site) and the Liliane Fonds (LF). The SKN has donated money for a second-hand minibus to drive members around and drive to villages in search of isolated disabled individuals. The LF donates money for wheelchairs, crutches and braces. LF also pays for medical operations needed to correct contractures. They also contribute funds to pay for some of our classes. Anak-anak Lisette [person? got a website? Children of Lisette... google it] from Holland in cooperation with Develstein College donated computers and materials for the activities. The funds that are provided are vitally important but unfortunately not nearly enough to pay for all our activities.

Contracture
A shortening or distortion of muscular or connective tissue due to spasm, scar or paralysis.

We are always looking for funding from private foreign individuals and organisations, as well as governmental entities interested in helping the disabled. Thankfully, we have met with some success in this area.

  • An Australian Rotary Club donated wheelchairs and eight pairs of crutches.
  • The Wheelchair Foundation with the assistence of the Ubud–Bali Rotary Club in August, 2006, donated 30 wheelchairs for both children and adults.
  • A Dutch audiologist donated hearing aids.
  • A Balinese organisation, Bali Hati, had a sound-proof room added in their centre that we can use for a small fee. Together with Nyoman Suwitera, a Balinese audiometrist, we perform hearing tests and test hearing aids. This also generates a little income for the foundation by charging a small fee for fabricating the ear-pieces for hearing aids.
  • From the Balinese Department of Social Affairs, we have received aid consisting of rice, cooking oil and sugar for the members living at the Senang Hati Centre.
  • The Mitra Bali Foundation has aided the Senang Hati Foundation with advice and donations and now employs one of our members. Their mission is to support craft producers through fair trade. Established in 1993, Mitra Bali is a member of IFAT (International Federation for Alternative Trade)
